To build a sustainable environment and improve the quality of living in a community, Kolehiyo ng Pantukan launched K6 Adopt-a-Barangay Program last 3rd of March this year at Barangay Bongbong, Pantukan, Davao de Oro. The program has been made possible through the Memorandum of Agreement between college and the recipient barangay.
The K6 Adopt-a-Barangay Program consists of six community extension activities with different focal goals and objectives namely: Karunungan, Kalusugan, Kabuhayan, Kapayapaan, Kaunlaran, and Kultura at Kapaligiran. Karunungan aims to progress the literacy rate of pupils by receiving free tutorials; Kalusugan eyes to improve and maintain the health of the adopted community through reinforcing organic and alternative medicines; Kabuhayan seeks to alleviate the barangay’s economic conditions through development of livelihood programs; Kapayapaan promotes peace and order by conducting community-peace seminars and workshops in basic self-defense and disarming techniques; Kaunlaran develops entrepreneurial ideas reinforcing Kabuhayan; and Kultura at Kapaligiran which aims to present, preserve, and promote the cultural richness of the adopted community while maintaining environmental sustainability.
With the program launched, KNP sets to visit the said barangay once every week to conduct all six community extension activities. In addition, KNP ensures that the implementation of this project is sustainable in the long run.
“KNP co-exists with the community as the community evolves through education KNP provides and so KNP flourishes as well with the help of community. It is always a pleasure for the institution to give back to the community” said Dr. Jocelyn Hijada-Hua in her gratitude speech during the major launching at Brgy. Bongbong.
Kolehiyo ng Pantukan since 2013 has created networks and linkages in the Municipality of Pantukan and has been designing community programs that help both recipient communities and the institution.
