March 19, 2021 – The Philippine Association for Future Teachers and Educators Region XI held a virtual Regional Student Congress with the theme “Capacitating Future Teachers in the New Normal”. FDr. Dr. Jocelyn Hijada-Hua, DFRIEdr, PAFTE Region XI President, initiated the educational congress which aims to equip future teachers across Region XI to be flexible, creative, and adaptive to the recent educational trends. Kolehiyo ng Pantukan hosted the event where Dr. Hua is also the College President.
The webinar involved almost 1,500 participants coming from different institutions in and outside Region XI. The following topics were introduced, Strategies for Flexible Learning during the morning session from 8 am to 12 pm with Dr. Felina P. Espique, Dean of School of Teacher Education and Liberal Arts from Saint Louis University as the speaker, and Mindful Learning Amidst Pandemic in the afternoon session from 1 pm to 4 pm with Ruchela P. Gamao, RGC from the University of Southeastern Philippines as the speaker.
Different learning modalities like blended and distance, leadership requirement, education technology: offline and online tools, motivation, and becoming productive future teachers are the important focal points that were taught throughout the webinar to completely capacitate the teachers of the new generation.
“We cannot afford to be complacent especially in this roughest time… Pandemic is never a reason for us to settle at the bottom, be stagnant, and endanger our education!”, said Dr. Hua as she conditioned the mind of all participants to embrace change and work for creative methods in teaching. Furthermore, Dr. Maricar R. Casquejo, Director IV of CHEDRO XI reinforced the necessity of paradigm shift as face-to-face instruction is deemed risky these days.
“Pulling up this program is indeed exigent as the pandemic happens exactly in my time of administration” stressed Dr. Hua during her welcome speech as she considered this to be the first-ever virtual innovation PAFTE Region XI created to reach out to students and maximize educational development in the season of COVID-19 pandemic.
